Happy New Year!!

To say that 2020 was a tumultuous year is a huge understatement, especially in Nashville. First the tornado tearing through the city laying waste in its path, the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic in the US, Black lives matter protests, and to top it off to end the year, a devastating bombing on Christmas morning in the heart of downtown Nashville. We all couldn’t wait to say goodbye to 2020 and welcome 2021, which brings a new hope of positivity, a brighter future and promise of better days to come.

So put on a smile and let’s rejoice together and bring in the new year with the possibility of anything better than what we have experienced so far. So common in this time to make resolutions to better oneself, I for one have a few simple resolutions to make for the new year and intend to keep. First, I want to live life to the fullest as we just don’t know when our tenure in this life will expire, so I want to make sure that I experience life to the fullest and make sure everything I experience is fully appreciated. Be kind to your fellow humans and neighbors. It is our responsibility to take care of each other, our friends, elders, and children. I want all of the people that know and interact with me that they are important to me and that I love them. I must have interacted and made friends with thousands of people from all walks of life, I just need them all to understand that they played an intricate part in shaping my life. I want everyone to just stay healthy, enjoy life, and have fun this coming new year. So Happy New Year Fun Seekers! We here at Boozywoozie, will work harder to bring you all better content and accurate top 5 lists, bring more events to celebrate fun and life. So cheers and here's to a brand new start and new year with wishes and hopes for a better tomorrow.

Pro Tip: If you haven’t seen Soul (2020) by Pixar Animation, please watch it for the realization of what it means to live life to the fullest and appreciate everything this lifetime has to offer. Another good meaning of life movie is The Razor’s Edge (1984) starring Bill Murray but be warned, it is a dramatic serious movie about the meaning of life.

New Year’s Day, also simply called New Year or New Year’s, is observed on January 1st, the first day of the year on the modern Gregorian calendar as well as the Julian calendar. In pre-Christian Rome under the Julian calendar, the day was dedicated to Janus, god of gateways and beginnings, for whom January is also named. As a date in the Gregorian calendar of Christendom, New Year’s Day liturgically marked the feast of the Naming and Circumcision of Jesus, which is still observed as such in the Anglican Church and Lutheran Church. The Roman Catholic Church celebrates on this day the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.

In present day, with most countries now using the Gregorian calendar, New Year’s Day is among the most celebrated public holidays in the world, often observed with fireworks at the stroke of midnight as the new year starts in each time zone. Other global New Year’s Day traditions include making New Year’s resolutions and calling one’s friends and family.

Five Fun Facts to welcome the New Year:

Fun Fact: Baby New Year has been a symbol of the holiday since around 600 B.C. starting in ancient Greece when an infant was paraded around in a basket in celebration of Dionysus, the god of fertility (and wine). The baby represents a rebirth that occurs at the start of each new year.

Fun Fact: Americans drink around 360 million glasses of sparkling wine on New Year’s.

Fun Fact: The New Year’s kiss started with the Romans.

Fun Fact: If you live in Italy, wearing red underwear is considered lucky.

Fun Fact: The island nation Kiribati rings in the new year first...while American Samoa is one of the last places to ring in the new year.
